Abraham was called FATHER

Acts 7:2 Who said: Ye men, brethren, and fathers, hear. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charan.

Another Catholic alibi that the Catholic Church is not violating Christ's commandment that in religion Christians should not call any man FATHER.

REFUTATIONS:

A) Abraham was the father of Jews so It is natural for Stephen to call Abraham his father

B) Abraham is not a co Christian of Christians

In the Bible, All Christians are brethen in Matthew 23:8.

And besides Abraham is not a spiritual father of the Christians.

Christ said that they should call no man (among Christians) even preachers the word FATHER.

Because before the Christian era, A PRIEST WAS ALSO A FATHER.

Judges 18:19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?

As a Christian, Our only spiritual father is God as mentioned in Ephesians 4:6 and we should not call them FATHER but instead BROTHER.

C) The Christians call their fellow Christians BROTHER/S even a Christian is a preacher like Paul.

NOW WHY APOSTLE PAUL WAS CALLED BROTHER AND NOT FATHER? HE HAS A HIGH POSITION IN THE CHURCH UNLIKE OTHER CHRISTIANS DURING HIS TIME?

Calling the priests FATHER in the Bible part 2

Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. - 1 Corinthians 4:15 (NIV)

REFUTATIONS:

A) Did you read here that Paul was called Father here? No

B) Is the word BECOME synonymous of the word CALL? NO

C) Why use the Protestant Bible by the Catholic Apologetics if the Catholic Church believes that Protestant Bibles have translation errors? It will imply that she does not have principle. let's use the Catholic Bible instead.

It will imply that Paul is not a father but mother. He begotten the Christians by means of the gospel it is because the Covenant from Heaven is the mothers of Christians in Galatians 4:22-26.

The one who gives birth is not A MAN but A WOMAN

1 Thessalonians 5:3 For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.

So we can see here that the MOTHERHOOD is the parenthood of the apostles to their flock.


D) It is clear that in religion we should call the priests FATHER as Christ mentioned in Matthew 23:9. Why the Catholic Church is hard headed about it?

E) The preachers of God are called BROTHERS. They are not called FATHERS.

F) In the Christian religion, All Christians from members to leaders are brethen to each other.

G) Catholic Apologists will cite that Timothy was called son by Apostle Paul and they will conclude that he is another father in the Christian Church.

The question is DID TIMOTHY CALL PAUL FATHER? WHAT VERSE? No verse they will cite!

If Apostle Paul is also our brother, why he called Timothy his son? It is because Paul acted as like Father

1 Thessalonians 2:11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

H) Paul is not another father of the Christians, Christians have only ONE FATHER and that is God

Why we should not call the priests FATHER?

 A priest performing a mass for the Catholic laities or members

Father is the term we frequently hear from the Catholics when they call their priests or to their bishops and also to the Pope in Rome. Is this Biblical or a term which contradicts to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ?

According to the teaching of the Catholic Church, why do they call their priests Father? In a Catholic book that the title is “Another Thousand Replies that was written by Rev. Leslie Rumble p. 75 Rockford Illinois: Tan Books and Publisher, Inc. 1979. we can read as follows:

"Catcholic rightly therefore call the priest "FATHER" not to be the exclusion of thier Father in heaven ,but a manifestation on earth of the supreme fatherhood of God in the spiritual order ,even as an earthly parent is a similar manifestation of the same fatherhood in the natural order.(p.75)

Why do they call their priests “father”? It is because it is the manifestation of the fatherhood of God on earth in spiritual leadership.

Now, who started that this term to be called inside the Catholic Church? according to history the one who implemented this is Pope Damasus I in 366-385 A.D.

Now, is it forbidden to call father our father in the flesh? NO! (read Matthew 7:10 and Ephesians 6:2-3) what is wrong to call someone father is the people who became father in spirit or on religion that is strictly forbidden to be called to them

"And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.” (Matthew 23:0)

It points outs to the religious leaders like the priests!

 

And these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?

Here it is strictly forbidden by our Lord Jesus that we should not call any man Father on earth it is because we have only One Father in Heaven (read Matthew 6:9) The God and Father of All (read Ephesians 4:6) He is the Father of spirits (read Hebrews 12:9) and it is God's name from everlasting (read Isaiah 63:16)

There is only one Father of the Christians in term of spiritual leadership. There are no fathers of the Christians but the Father in Heaven (read 1 Corinthians 4:15)

So calling the priest, bishop or the Pope in Rome as father in spirit (read Judges 17:10 )

is really a direct violation of what was said by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 23:9

What happened to the fathers of the Catholics?

"Even from the days of your FATHERS ye are gone away from mine ordinances..."(Malachi 3:7)

"Norwithstanding they would not hear but hardened their neck like to the neck of thier FATHERS, that did not believe in the LORD thier God.(2 king's 17:14)

"...but thou ,and thy FATHER'S HOUSE,in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD ,and thou hast followed BAALIM.(1 King's 18:18)

"...and put away the gods which your FATHER 'S served.."(Josue 24:14)

This is what happened to the fathers of the Catholics. They disobeyed God’s laws and served other gods. The Catholic priests too do the same just like what I posted the Bible verses above. they worship Mother Mary, the saints and the angels by praying on them, they teach doctrines which mostly are against the teachings of the Holy Bible and do some abominable trangressions like pedophilia, rape, premarital sex and others.

2. JESUS TOO WILL BE GUILTY OF THE CATHOLIC CRIME; He is violating His own word.

Mt 10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the FATHER the child…

3. THE HOLY SPIRIT SHALL BE GUILTY TOO OF THE CRIME because people prophesied by His inspiration and called people ‘father’.

(a) Lk 1: 67 Zechariah was FILLED with the HOLY SPIRIT and later he said:

Lk 1:72-73 ‘To perform the mercy promised to OUR FATHERS, and to remember his holy covenant. The oath which he sware to OUR FATHER Abraham.

(b) Acts 7: 55 referred to St. Stephen as ‘full of the Holy Spirit’ and yet he called people in that same chapter ‘FATHER’ a record of 18 times. If calling people ‘father’ is wrong it presupposed that the Paraclete misled the proto-martyr.

(c) Since the Letter to the Hebrews bear no human authorship the full responsibility goes to the Holy Spirit who inspired it.

6. THE BENEVOLENT PHARAOH [Master of Joseph the Dreamer] IS GUILTY

10. KING SOLOMON IS GUILTY

2 Chron 6:4,7-8,10,15-16 Solomon delivered this ‘sacrilegious’ speech during the completion of the Temple. Imagine he called David ‘my father’ 6 times. 2 Chron 6:25,31,38 Solomon called other people ‘fathers’ 3 times. N.B.: In 2 Chron 7:1 the Sacred Scripture states that Yahweh responded with FIRE FROM HEAVEN , but not out of anger in order to kill Solomon for calling people ‘father’ right inside the sacred Temple. Instead, the fire consumed the offerings as a sign of divine acceptance. Moreover, the glory of the Lord (Shekinah) filled the house. 2 Kgs 2:12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My FATHER, My FATHER [referring to the prophet Elijah], the chariot of Israel… [It means that a Man of God can be referred to as 'Father'].

ON CALLING THE POPE ‘HOLY FATHER’

Is 22:21,23-24 …he [Eliakim, the keeper of the key] shall be a FATHER to the inhabitants of Jerusalem…and he shall be for a glorious throne to his FATHER’s house…And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his FATHER’s house.

Bear in mind that The Book of Isaiah is a prophetic book. It is particularly a prophesy concerning the coming of the Messiah and His Kingdom. The above chapter (Is 22) if will be read completely will lead us to Mt 16: 18-19.

Like Eliakim, St. Peter received from Jesus the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, thus making him the Prime Minister of the Kingdom with the power to bind and to loose above any other with the exception of the King Himself.

One of the title given to the Holder of the Keys is that he shall be called FATHER. The Pope, as successor of Peter, is called HOLY FATHER... With the adjective ‘Holy’ because he is the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Heaven not just of the Davidic kingdom.

N.B. The Catholic word ‘priest’ was a shortened version of the Presbyter. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary provides the etymology [ME preist, fr. OE preost, ultim. fr. LL presbyter elder, priest, fr. Gk presbyteros, fr. compar. of presbys old man, elder].


MY REFUTATION: They are not called father in spiritual sense like in this verse.

And these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?

Besides, if you translate to other languages the words FATHER on other verses, The words are different which is not FATHER in English.

like in Acts 13:17 it says "The God of this people of Israel chose OUR FATHERS…"

In my own native language, the word FATHERS there is translated as MGA MAGULANG.

the word MAGULANG can also mean parent.

the word FATHER in English has a lot of meanings.

Anyway, if you translate Matthew 23:9 the word FATHER there, the word is AMA which is FATHER in English.

Calling the priests FATHER is not literal but spiritual. Lord Jesus tells us that in spiritual issues, We should not call our spiritual parents (Word of God preachers) FATHER because we only have one Spiritual Father who is God, The Father of Lord Jesus Christ.

We must remember that Lord Jesus words are all spiritual bases on this verse:

John 6:63 The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

So again, Lord Jesus prohibits the calling FATHER in spiritual matters. we have only one spiritual Father who is God the Father of Lord Jesus.

Besides, in spiritual matters. the word FATHER is the name of God.

Isaiah 63:16 Doubtless You are our Father,Though Abraham was ignorant of us,
And Israel does not acknowledge us.You, O Lord, are our Father; Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name. (New King James Version)

The main reason why there is one spiritual Father in spiritual matters and only God should be called FATHER it is because IN RELIGION, all Christians are brothers.


Matthew 23:8 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. (New King James Version)

No wonder why Apostle Peter called Apostle Paul the term BROTHER and not FATHER. (We must remember that they were both Christian preachers)

2 Peter 3:15 And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, (New King James Version)

but Catholic priests call their fellow priests today FATHER.


CATHOLIC DEFENSE: WELL, WELL, WELL! THE BIBLE IS VERY CATHOLIC, ISN’T IT? BECAUSE IT IS A CATHOLIC BOOK! IF YOU WILL FOLLOW THE PROTESTANT AND BORN-AGAIN INTERPRETATION THE SACRED SCRIPTURES THEMSELVES SHALL LOOSE THEIR DIVINE INSPIRATION.
